Starting from Version 2.0.4, the fragments can be found washed up on your island's beach. There can only be 1 gyroid fragment at each island. Once on the island that Kapp'n has dropped the player off at, the player should look around for the same star-shaped crack in the ground that indicates a buried item. These islands are different than the Mystery Tour islands, though, and no gyroid fragments can be found on regular mystery tour islands. Once the player takes their first trip with Kapp'n (which costs 1,000 Nook Miles) they will arrive at a unique island (similar to the Mystery Island Tours). To find these fragments, a player must first speak to Kapp'n, who is located at the end of the pier on the island. Gyroid colors can be customized at a DIY Workbench. Their purpose is to "grow" Gyroids, similar to plants. They are dug up from the ground just like fossils, with the distinctive "star" shape marking where they are. They were added to the game in the Novem2.0 update.
