Now I need more time to learn all it's workings but from what i have seen Avid is bringing some of the interplay mam and interplay central/mediadirector functionalities into mc but it's a long way from what we suggest here and i'm not sure if the direction of development will bring it any closer. While it's not what we are asking for, Avid is understanding what we need and delivering a product that relates to the O.P. Interesting to see this thread, but even more it's objective, to keep returning. So, if Avid is serious about "listening", it is up to US to make demands, and up to THEM to use wisdom about which demands justify changes that increase sales, recruit new customers and satisfy existing Avid users. It is a fact, that today's society is attracted by immediacy, superfice, looks and simplicity, whether we agree with it or not. Yes, it may be amazing and gratifying for Avid editors, but water under the bridge for non-Avid editors, and expected by new editors. ability to edit transitions in the timeline or cached waveforms). I find it rather amusing when with every update they proudly announce one "major" UI improvement (e.g. I am aware that they have progressed and changed, but much more needs to be done. I assume Avid has finally realised that reliance on the professional market (dismissing the consumer and prosumer market, which are slowly converging, anyway) constitutes the nail in their coffin. having individual and scalable windows for the CC scopes) makes a difference for my editing AND aesthetic experience, and this is not a bagatelle if I have to sit for several hours in front of that UI. Moreover, even for experienced editors like me, a tidy workspace and window management (e.g. UI: yes, I will say it again: the look and UI experience of a software is the first calling card for potential customers. So, here a despearate plea to forum members:ģ. However, Avid and forum members have to realise and express the fact that workarounds are not acceptable but emergency solutions, and that should be an incentive for Avid to offer efficient solutions. Of course, I am most grateful to all solutions and workarounds offered on these forums, and more than ones this has saved my neck. They only listen to complaints and threats of losing customers. The problem is that the more workarounds are justified by conservative Avid defenders on these forums, the less Avid will be willing to find solutions for these workarounds. Workarounds: another deal breaker for new Avid editors - workarounds waste time, they are (often) unreliable, and they are not worthy of Avid's reputation. This fragmentation of tasks and 3rd-party solutions has driven dozens of my students to Adobe (after doing my Avid editing course).Ģ. decent secondary CC and Pan-and-ZoomsĬ) the absence of a bundled compositing software comparable to After FX (without having to purchase Avid FX/Boris RED) having to find and install individual plugins)ī) Avid's comparably mediocre effect range and the necessaity to purchase BCC to perform, e.g. Reliance on 3rd party solutions: I have had dozens of students (either who wanted to migrate from FCP7, or aspiring editors) who have been put off by:Ī) the AMA plugin architecture (i.e. ![]() Whilst I am being realistic about Avid not really listening to (in their POV) "superficial" customer needs and prioritising more significant features (such as resolution independence - bloody time!!!), Avid has to learn from Adobe and Apple three major lessons that are potentially major deal breakers for recruiting new Avid users, and I am speaking as an Avid training provider at four UK universities, one private film school, and giving private tuition:ġ. With update 7 and Avid Everywhere I see we are on the right way. ![]() Everyone likes to check to-do lists, cleaning my digital workspace is a top item for me for many months now which I just can't tick due to insufficient functionality.Īnyways. Such functionality would make many many customers sooooo happy. and of course an option to copy, move, delete them. To see when where what kind of data was created, moved, etc. We need a profound and precise Media Database on Windows AND Mac. The "Media Creation" handling drives me crazy. ![]() I have loads and loads of data, more than just one drive and people sometimes use the computer to make a quick edit, sometimes of projects that are many months old and before you know they saved some mxf data on the wrong drive. Each month we work on a new project and produce two movies per year. I am working in the marketing department for a movie distribution and production company. A quick, integrated, comprehensive and affordable media library/organization tool is what I am looking for for years.
